James Gibb Raise Over £3K At Business Fives
Last week we took part in the Business Fives footballing tournament, an annual event which hopes to raise over £10,000 for charities each year. We entered into the Construction, Housing and Property Heat on 15th August, ready to show off our soccer skills in aid of MND Scotland.
All didn’t quite go to plan – however we did manage to raise over £3,000 for our chosen charity. MND Scotland was nominated by our Chief Executive Douglas Weir, and is the only charity in Scotland supporting those affected by MND.
Business Fives is Scotland’s first ever national business 5-a-side football tournament, providing a fun teambuilding and networking environment, as well as a great opportunity for businesses to give to charity. There was some stiff competition in the Construction, Housing and Property tournament, but we gave our all on the day.
Team James Gibb played with plenty of passion and enthusiasm, however it just wasn’t enough on the day to see us make the cut for the final. So dedicated were we to the cause, that we ended up with a couple of injuries along the way, including a damaged knee for Neil Main and a snapped Achilles for our Edinburgh Managing Director, Nic Mayall!
We’d like to extend a big well done to our players Nic Mayall, Furqan Rafiq, Neil Main, Neal Wallace, Mike Grehan, Craig Wylie, Kieran Milne and Alan Wilkie, and to team manager and mascot Morgan Cooper for holding the team together. The team managed a modest 2-1 win against McLaighlin & Harvey, but unfortunately succumbed to some major defeats along the way to AC Whyte (10-1), David Navarro Associates (7-0) and Mast Architects (5-2).
However, we know it’s not about the winning, it’s about the taking part! And in this case, it’s also about the charities that will benefit. We’d like to extend thanks to our contractors, stakeholders and James Gibb staff, who have made a contribution to our fundraising total of over £3,700 at present.
“We were delighted to be involved in such a well organised event. Huge thanks are due to our team for volunteering to play and to those who helped support or chosen charity, MND Scotland. We and MND Scotland are overwhelmed by the amount raised. This will make a huge difference to a very worthy cause.” James Gibb CEO, Douglas Weir
We are thrilled to have raised more than our £2,500 target already, and with the JustGiving page still open, there’s still time for you to contribute to this great cause if you haven’t already.
